What It Feels Like To Turn 30

Hey Friends,

I had exciting realizations last year.

Flashback a bit to 10 years ago.

As the first son with two sisters in divorced parents, it is always hard to live your life fullest, since your interest will ever become the last. I always knew my passion is be entrepreneur, I also like teaching and writing (I’m sure people like me :D not belong in corporate lives), but it’s not possible since I need to support my family’s finances. Even I can’t choose the company I wanted when I graduated, Procter & Gamble, due to work required to relocate to other cities.

But this is not stopping me. Slowly but sure, I believe the time will come. I took the first action. I allocated 50% of my salary to savings. (Yes, it’s 50% — other 20% for family. So I only live with a 30%, goodbye millennial lifestyle. Even my dormitory cost only 700k / month). After two years, I started a side hustle and co-founded Mansion Barbershop with all the money I saved.

Then, long story short, I got married, a happy marriage. I was blessed for this one. But it also means greater responsibility. Other than my mother and two sisters, now I also responsible for my wife and two children. It has forced me to go back to corporate lives; luckily, “startup” is booming at the right time. A startup is corporate, as you still work with someone else, but not corporate due to a very open culture, consisting of energetic and smart young individuals. Here’s when my startup career begin. I joined several big startups in Indonesia, which are GO-JEK, Bukalapak, and Awan Tunai.

~30th.

As I approached 30, I start requestioning what do I want in life? What is my purpose? Do you still want to pursue your entrepreneurial journey?

The answer is the same, but with a different motivation. During my journey, especially as a father, I found that my two lovely children have become my #1 priority. My life purpose now is to give them a legacy, so they don’t have to repeat the life that I am going through, where they can have options which life they want to pursue.

I don’t think working in a company (whether a real corporate or startup) will help me achieve my purpose. That’s why I resigned from the top 3 eCommerce in Indonesia.

30th.

Luckily, “Content creator” is booming (haha, this is the second time I have this statement, but I grateful. Thanks to God, He always there when you need it the most). Content creator means Business + Teaching, and it combines both my passion perfectly. Financially also good.

Now, together with my wife, we started “Tentang Tujuan.” We aimed to be a social platform that can accompany people when pursuing their purpose. There will be a podcast, mentorship, and online course program.

I also joined the Desty.app as a founding member and head of product. Even though it still working for someone else, but I got stocks that can be very rewarding if the company successful (which relate to giving legacy), the vision also fit me well, which is supporting SMEs and influencer to be on the next level.

Have a great week!
